Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) uses advanced cutting edge technologies in ‘frontier’ deepwater areas of over 1,000 metres. The Bonga deepwater discovery made in 1995 increased Nigeria’s crude reserves by some 600 million barrels.

SNEPCO is a rapidly growing company comprising a range of large operated and non-operated deep and shallow water assets. The production operations support, plus well and reservoir surveillance, subsurface and well delivery work for SNEPCO is currently being migrated from the global technical partners to Locally-based staff.

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Tax Advisor for projects in our Lagos office.

Responsibilities:
In this position you will be responsible for the development and implementation of projects to execute the Group tax planning strategy, while supporting key processes, maintaining stakeholder relationships and ensuring compliance to relevant tax standards. The key tasks include:
  1.  Initiate, implement and coordinate projects to meet objectives of the business plan.
  2.  Provide tax input to portfolio projects.
  3.  Assist in improving the tax efficiency of the corporate structure.
  4.  Assist in dividend planning to holding companies.
  5.  Review and analyse corporate, financing and other structures in order to identify planning opportunities.
  6.  Ensure that tax exposures, saving and quarterly tax assurance are properly identified, prepared and reported to the Tax Controller.
  7.  Translate and integrate business processes, data and operating environment requirements into the tax reporting system.
  8.  Control tax aspects of deferred tax accounting & Effective Tax Rate reporting in coordination with Tax Compliance and Controller’s staff as second level reviewer.
  9.  Ensure control over tax returns preparation and filing in area of responsibility.
  10.  Ensure best in class for compliance standards, controls and policies applied to all tax payments and returns.
  11.  Ensure legal entities in area of responsibility are fully compliant with local rules for payment and presentation of tax returns for all taxes.
  12.  Identify the need for, and obtain fiscal consents and approvals.
  13.  Monitor tax compliance through reviews and design improvements in collaboration with controllers.
  14.  Maintain relationships with tax and fiscal authorities manage tax, external audits and negotiate for the settlement of tax disputes within delegated limits.
  15.  Ensure full compliance with relevant financial accounting standards, including SOX 404
  16.  Provide assurance sign-offs to the Group in accordance with the Group Assurance Process
  17.  Ensure an effective process for compliance with the Tax Manual of Global Tax Standards in the area of responsibility assigned and report any breaches thereof in accordance with established practices.
  18.  Take part in special tax projects where applicable and play active part in the Tax community where required.
  19.  Manage the delivery of consultants engaged to assist on global Tax projects. – Support the development and implementation of standards and priority processes in accordance with the Tax Standards
  20.  Ensure cost reduction through effective management of controls and expenses in accordance with the Tax Manual of Authorities.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate must possess a recognized professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA) or be a member of a recognized legal professional body with a minimum of 10 years relevant Tax experience.
  •  Experience in client/project management and task prioritization skills
  •  Demonstrate ability to establish and utilize external relationships and contacts for the benefit of Shell
  •  Must have strong negotiation skills with the ability to effectively influence others within and outside of Shell Tax
  •  Must be able to evaluate and balance tax risks in order to make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate and supportive of the Business
  •  Must be an effective team player within Tax and multidisciplinary teams.
